Some Playstation 3 Geekery
While I don’t consider myself a hard-core gamer or anything, I’m nerdy enough to want constantly-updated NBA and NFL rosters for my Playstation 3 sports games.
There is one board I use that’s dedicated to sports gaming, Operation Sports. I’m new to the whole world of online gaming, downloadable updates and the like. Despite some nicely-phrased questions on some gamer forums, nobody would provide an answer or even a link to an answer for how to transfer downloaded roster files from my computer to my Playstation 3.
I know it’s a total n00b question, and I even admitted as much. Still, no help. Thanks, dicks.
So after some extensive searching, I came up with the procedure. I’ve decided to put this out there for anyone else in the same situation as I.
1. Download the desired roster file. I like to get mine from the Operation Sports Forums. Games are separated into categories (Football, Basketball, etc.) and further into franchises (NBA Live, NBA 2K, etc.).
2. Unzip the file to your desktop.
3. Create a folder on your desktop called “PS3″. Open this folder.
4. Create a folder inside the PS3 folder called “SAVEDATA”. Open this folder.
5. Place the unzipped roster folder inside this folder.
6. Insert your flash memory stick into a USB port on your computer.
7. Copy-and-paste the PS3 folder from your desktop onto your memory stick.
8. Eject the memory stick and remove it from your computer.
9. Plug the memory stick into an open USB port on your PS3. I just use one of the controller inputs, as they’re easy to reach.
10. Navigate to the “Game” menu on the PS3.
11. Select “Save Data Utility”.
12. Highlight your USB Flash Drive.
13. Press “X”
14. Press Triangle, then select “Copy” in the sub-menu.
Your roster updates are now available on your PS3, and you don’t even have to look like some kind of n00b on the boards where no one will answer you.

that sucks. stupid message boards… why is that so ridiculously complicated anyway? thanks sony, for making us bow to blu-ray and memory sticks and overly complicated updating.
