Do Not Postpone Happiness.

I’m listening to Wilco’s webcast from their Sydney, Australia show.

You can catch it on their website, http://www.wilcoworld.net.

Listening to this brings back to me the time I saw Wilco right after the 2004 elections, while visiting a friend in Colorado.

Everyone was pissed & depressed that Bush got back into the White House. You could feel it in the air mixed in with the anticipation of seeing your favorite band ever in a strange location in downtown Denver with a bunch of Nebraska hippies.

My favorite part of the Denver Nebraska Hippie Wilco show was their song, Kingpin. During Kingpin, Tweedy has everyone do this collective scream & you have to fit it into the music. Well, the things he said that night, as he explained the directions on how to scream with the music, were really inspiring.

In the webcast from Sydney, he gives us yet another explanation of directions on how to participate in Kingpin, peppered with more political commentary. The basic theme evolved into “Do Not Postpone Happiness.”

All we need now, is a video of Tweedy giving the same talk to a camera, with bad graphics text editing techniques, as a graduation speech.

So, go listen to the webcast…until about halfway through…it’ll take you a good 40 minutes of listening, because you can’t fast forward to get to the really good shit.

While you’re waiting, grab some whiskey and drool over the idea of checking them out at White River State Park this June 15th.
